THE HOPE WELL

Like many places in the world, clean water is a critical need in Conevisa. For years the only water source in the village was a water truck that would come to the town every eight days to fill drums scattered throughout the village. This source of water was not adequate, and with the environment, the water was not clean, leading to many health problems.

God placed on the heart of a volunteer team member, Chance Hill, the desire to help bring hope to the people of Conevisa by providing an adequate source of clean water. Chance returned to Alabama and set about raising funds for the project. He hosted fundraising dinners and even spent two weeks riding horseback across the state of Alabama with his father to raise awareness and donations.

The local government of Zacapa transferred ownership of an abandoned well to Shalom-Jireh Baptist Church. The well was restored with funds raised by Chance. Other on-going donations help pay for the power source to operate the well. Water lines were installed to carry water to houses in the village, and people were blessed to have clean water available right in their home.

Unfortunately, the system is currently not in operation due to problems believed to be related to a drop of the water table in the area. Also, there have been extended stretches of drought and insufficient rainfall in the area for over three years. We are in desperate need of funds and experts to assess the situation and help us find a way to make the well operational again.
